Important Message

It has been well over a year since I began my internet adventure posting several threads of information on several different blogs. The time and energy spent has been terrific and I can no longer keep up the pace.

I can't continue to update this blog simply because I don't have the time working two other jobs and trying to have time with my family as well. Publishing a post once a week just is not enough to keep people coming back for more.

If you have enjoyed this information please "Jump into the Fast Lane" and check out Anarchist World. This same information will be there and it will be updated every two days! This is better service and offers more content as well. I can do this through future posting on wordpress blogs. This blog does not support future posting.

By posting in only one location I figure I can free up 75% more available time. That is a considerable amount of time and effort saved. This cost has been so high because I have been trying to maintain over 100 blogs in an effort to find and attract new readers. I will be dropping down to only those you see on Anarchist World.

Visit Anarchist World and find this information there with daily updates! It's faster and there is more to choose from. The focus of my efforts will be there and not here.

thank you

I grew up on a farm. Every night I had chores to do before playing or homework. In the winter it was carrying in the wood to keep the fires going as well as feeding the cows. Dad worked a second job during the day and milked the cows in the morning and at night. It was almost too much for one person.

That's the world I grew up in and I'm grateful. There never seems to be enough hours in the day to get done all of the things that I would like to do and I'm always busy. Perhaps I am a work-aholic. There are worse things to be. I've been in the working world many years now and our society seems to be split between the workers and non-workers.

Work and labor are the lawful ways of fulfilling our needs. When we earn something we value it. Why is there a growing belief that things should be handed to us? When did it become alright to be passive? When did it become cool to suck off others like a vampire?

Talk is cheap and there will always be reasons to justify not putting out honest effort. Perhaps the best one is "It's too hard". When all is said and done a persons actions count much more than fancy talk. When I listen to what someone says I'm also looking at what they are doing and what they have done. I'm looking for clues on whether to give this person any credibility or not.

What is life about? What goes on after we die? Our work goes on after us. We are justified in life by the work that remains completed as a testament to us. We are remembered for what we have done in life, not what we have dreamed or said.

Actions count and hard work is the most powerful of all actions in this world.

What is this sick thinking that everything must be for free? Why this chip on the shoulder that says I don't have to try. Today's children are getting a very dangerous message that they do not need to be responsible for their own actions. Actions don't count any more.

If something is too hard give up and try something easier. What about the feeling of pride and accomplishment you get when you have attained or done something very difficult? What about the mountain climbers or deep sea divers? If you never do anything hard you can never be proud of what you have done.

When was the last time you were wildly enthusiastic about a cause or ideal? Did you march in picket lines or carry posters? Were you part of a cause with lots of people or was it something you were excited about by yourself?

What is it that stirs the minds and hearts of people strongly enough to get them off their chairs and take action? Each generation is different. What is it for our generation? Terrorist attacks? We can all join together laying flowers on the graves of innocent lives that have been lost. Is that what we do in today's world? I don't see much pro-active except perhaps the belief in a free internet and open source software.

It's easy to believe in free government, free thought, free conscience, free speech and free men and women. We all want to believe in these things but we don't want to get passionate about them. We don't want to miss our favorite tv show to attend a local activity group. We don't want to physically commit to anything that might make us uncomfortable. Action is where the power is and action is what is needed. Action is what is missing in our society today. People would rather watch a football game than play a football game.

Our passivity will cause us to loose these freedoms if we don't take action. The erosion of personal freedoms and liberties has been going on for a long time. The weak require complex laws and special circumstances to create an artificial environment where they have an unfair advantage. There will always be a movement by the weak to make our laws more complex and coercive. We need to be vigilant and keep our laws simple and understandable. True genius simplifies so that all can understand. The freemasons created a world where business was done on a handshake and a person's word was good. We have lost the path and need to find it again.

There is nothing wrong with simple competentcy in life. There is nothing wrong with keeping things simple. Making things complex is simply an attempt by the weak to take an unfair advantage.

Logic and persuasive arguments won't bring simplicity back. They don't stir the hearts of people. Simple slogans and speaking from the heart are the only answer. The things we need to do are so simple even the most uneducated person can understand. We need to believe in the good that is within each other.

But first we need to be educated. Speech must be free. The freedom of speech is the most precious gift and right we have. Each one of us has an insight and bit of the truth that needs to be told and shared with others. Are we doing that? Are we telling others what we think and what we believe? How can people know who we are if we don't let them know where we stand on core issues? I know that I am.

We don't even ask for the things we want or need. When is the last time you openly told someone what you wanted or needed? How are they supposed to know if you don't tell them? When is the last time we told someone we were fed up with the war in Iraq and $3/gal gasoline prices (soon to be $4).

It's time we started talking about what we want and letting other people know where we stand. If there ever was a time to be passionate about the erosion of personal liberty it is now before the Patriot Act takes it away. Stand up and let people know that you are not satisfied with the economic slavery that is being imposed.

Things are the way they are because we have allowed them. How much more will we allow before we say enough!

In the wake of shooting rampages in public schools and campuses like Virginia Tech the question arises, how can we protect our children in today's world? What can we do to give them a better chance to survive?

Three days after the massacre at Virginia Tech our local highschool was shut down due to a terroristic threat made by some students. Three students are being charged according to today's newspaper. Can we save our children from themselves?

It seems to me that today's world offers more opportunities than ever before in living memory. On the other hand a casual mistake or wrong choice can be life destroying. When I was in high school we didn't have to worry about what came out of our mouths. We only had to worry about getting caught in the act.

Not true for our children. Saying the wrong words can land them in deep trouble and perhaps in jail. In this delicate and fragile environment the thing needed most is an accurate perception of physical reality. Delusional and drug induced thinking play havoc on adolescent minds already prone to idealistic thinking.

There is a paradox at work here because when people think only of themselves society reaches its lowest point. At the lowest levels tyrants and government make slaves of people. Being self-centered and self-absorbed is not the answer to societies problems. It will not protect our children.

The emotional force of children is a force. The emotional force of our society is a similar force. These forces must be regulated by intellect and by conscious awareness. Being ruled by terror and fear of bodily harm is not in our best interests or the best interests of our children. It will only bring out the worst in them and in our government.

Our children and our society both need good examples to inspire them. When our children are inspired and when our society is inspired new heights are reached and civilizations enter golden ages. These examples need to be real and not fictional HollyWood actors and actresses.

As more and more people become victims of suicidal depression the question becomes even more urgent. Where are the high ideals and good examples we need? Where are the rugged individualists and the survivalists that can adapt and be successful in the changing world our children will inherit? Who is willing to come out and show us how it is done?

When so many people believe the game is stacked against them and they have no chance of winning they need to see others win at life. Seeing others win inspires all of us to find our own way to success and glory. This is the best possible way we can protect our children and help them to embrace the world they will inherit.

Freemasons and Rosicrucians belonged to mystery schools and followed specific teachings. These teachings were the collective wisdom entrusted to a few and given to the many. This wisdom was passed down from one member to another and transmitted through allegory, symbol and initiation because of the limitations of language. In every age the wisdom was re-interpreted to be meaningful for a modern audience.

Any new interpretation has always encountered stiff resistance from the established ways of thinking carried over from the past. In today's world the Catholic Church used to dominate the western world. Today our universities and scientific materialism dominate. There is no use for spirituality any more or so it seems. At least we enjoy public education and our society is mostly literate.

In a world where the Catholic Church dominated there were no public schools and no access to controversial theories or concepts except for Secret Societies. It is easy for us to take for granted the basic philosophical understanding and training we recieve through the public school system. This was not always available to the common man or woman.

Private tutors educated the rich and others found apprenticeships to learn trades and life skills. Most of this training and education was oral and given by a master to his or her apprentice.

For those not rich enough to have private tutors organizations like Freemasonry were the only option. Education has always been the best way for anyone to climb into a better social class. For the first time social organizations served the highest cause of all.

In the process of carving one's own destiny self-education, self-esteem, and the conscious individual have always been the highest cause. Mystery schools and fraternal organizations are simply people of like mind and values that join together is a supportive way for mutual education and self empowerment.

Like the modern open source community in the computer world, there is a shared dream of what people working together can do to improve all of life. This is a move away from selfish greed and poverty thinking. It is an understanding of the miracles a supportive community can achieve.

These movements are what allows a nation and its citizens to evolve into a higher way of living and understanding. These are the progressive movement of life that will always exist within creative individuals.

Sadly even the best movements grow old and toxic. The message that once saved and invigorated a population begins to restrict and enslave it. This is a natural cycle and there is no avoiding it. We grow out of our old ways and grow into new ways that allow more freedom and self-expression.

We have outgrown religion in the commonly accepted terms and harsh cold science has taken its place along with modern technology. Now even science and technology are beginning to restrict and enslave us. There is no room for spirit and individual creativity except in the acceptance of chaos theory.

OAK merges these different disciplines in a new way that is supportive of them all. With its embrace of chaos theory we are given insights into a modern path of self empowerment that is as objective and real as science with a soul as human as Christianity once was. We have the technology to heal ourselves and make life a heaven on earth. It is up to each individual to claim their own small piece.

Each of us has a sphere of influence. We have friends or family that listen to us and love us. At work co-workers share the work day with us.

When you stop and think about it we touch the lives of many people during the course of a single day. A warm smile in greeting to a stranger might brighten someone's day. When someone smiles at us or calls us by name it makes us feel better. Are we doing the same for others?

Living by example is the most powerful influence of all. That means being an authentic person. It also means being free enough to express who we really are. There is an order and purpose to everything that happens. Today we experienced the natural consequences of things we have done in the past. What have we done today that will influence tomorrow in the way we want?

One of the ways to do this and become free is to turn our aspirations toward God/dess and high ideals. Another is to reverse self-directed thinking and think of others. When we expand our living beyond ourselves to include others it inspires them to do the same. When we treat others with respect and dignity we receive back in kind.

This does not mean to become self-less. It doesn't mean to deny ourselves to give to others. It means to share our success and prosperity. When our personal cup overflows and runs over there is plenty to share with others. The goal to share and promote is self-growth not self-denial.

Encourage everyone to find their own personal path through life. Allow them the guiltless freedom to be who they are and accept that for yourself as well. Everyone is a unique individual with a personal path that is known only to themselves. Only they can determine their own self-worth. This includes not being ashamed of personal appearance and natural bodily functions.

Our world has become so artificial and shallow that true character and personality takes second place to movie star looks and physique. We are ashamed if our complexion is not perfect or we are over weight. Fitting a stereotype is more important than being real. That is why there is so much fake in our society.

This is a warning that things are not right because nature is not fooled. Artificial is not real and in times of crisis the fake will fall and the real will survive. By setting examples of what is real we can use our sphere of influence to create a real world that is worth living in. When others see the quality of life we experience they will want to experience the same kind of authenticity. They will be inspired by our living examples.

Even today in the age of medical miracles and computers science doesn't formally acknowledge the universal dual nature of reality. This is truly the power of Dewey Larson's Reciprocal Field Theory. For the first time a general field theory is based on the principles of duality. The Reciprocal Field Theory postulates a space/time universe and a time/space universe that co-exist in the same space. They are separated by the speed of light.

In his landmark book "Nothing but Motion" he states all that exists is simply vibratory motion. The photon as the building block of all things pulses outward and then collapses back inward toward the center as an electrical pulse.

Magnetic fields are dual as well. North pole magnetic fields combine with south pole magnetic fields to produce the rotation of the earth.

Over and over in nature we find examples of duality. We find the existence of opposites as paradox and then the final resolution of paradox as the dual elements combine perfectly to form something new.

The universe pulses, matter pulses, cells pulsate, the heart beats, the lungs breathe, one muscle pulls one way and it's opposite allow movement. We have the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. Let's not forget how the brain is divided into two hemispheres or the obvious distinction of male and female. Food passes through the intestines in a pulsating movement.

Landmark books like "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" for the first time explore the possibility that males and females are not the same and don't experience life the same way. It might not be possible for one sex to understand the other sex. We may always be a mystery to each other and that might be how it should be.

In our world alternating current pulses at 60 cycles per second. Computers use binary bits of data based on "0's" and "1's". The digital age is upon us and it is all based upon the duality of postive and negative forces that are harnessed together in some way to create something useful.

We are coming close to the point of science accepting the dual nature of the universe out of neccessity but religion and psychology stubbornly refuse to examine the data. They don't understand how paradox and the resolution of paradox go hand in hand with modern chaos theory.

Anything may be described as an energy system. As more energy is applied to that system it will grow or progress in an orderly manner until it reaches a critical point where it goes chaotic. That is the point where the dual forces of the system are going in different directions and it seems as if everything is destroyed. As even more energy is applied the original system makes a quantum leap into a new type of energy system. This is the resolution of the paradox. The dual forces are once more working in harmony in a totally new way.

Isn't this another way of saying birth, death and rebirth? Isn't this how we become competent at a skill? Isn't this how a business venture become successful?

There are two sides to every philosophical point and both of them are valid. Debate can logically prove either view as correct. Essentially that means either view is worthless as well. The only view worth considering is not the paradoxical one but the resolution of the paradox. The OAK material presents the resolution to many of the paradoxical questions we are confronted with on a daily basis. Many are self-evident truths recognised by all when they are pointed out.

The resolution to paradox is always beautiful in its simplicity and its self-evident nature. When we talk about duality it is important to talk about the resolution of duality into a third as well. Rosicrucians call this the "Law of the triangle". Christianity term this the "Trinity" aspect of God. Pagans and Wiccans use the terms "Father, Mother, Child" and "Maid, Mother, Crone".

The resolution of duality is always a quantum leap into a new state of being and it is always preceded by a chaotic period or "dark night of the soul". Any system as it ages will at some point become chaotic. There is not reason to fear this process. It would be better if we understood it and became friends with it.

In life nothing ever stays the same and change is inevitable.

When you think about something long enough and hard enough you begin to get emotional about it. When you get emotional enough about something you will be driven to act on it.

This might not be true in the literal sense but it certainly seems to be true in the experiential sense. Thinking about something is both time investment and work. It uses energy and we become fatigued. Going to college or trying to figure out the taxes are examples of how draining hard mental work can be. The more we do the easier it gets for us. We are building our mental muscles up and finding new ways to use them.

With practice we can study longer and harder than we used to. This means that we are becoming competent and things that used to wear us out don't bother us any more. Becoming competent develops good self-esteem and confidence in our mental abilities. As we become more sure of ourselves and our abilities we express our emotions more. It might simply be because we are not so drained and have the emotional energy now or it might be because our thoughts and mental activity are taking on a more solid and earthy basis.

We can see the same things happen with emotions. Strong emotions are linked to physical responses. The "Fight or Flight" instinct takes over in extreme emotional crisis. When our emotions get to high we are literally driven to physical action to get some type of relief from unbearable stress and pressure.

This principle can be used in a self empowering manner as well. When we understand that thoughts become emotions and emotions become actions we gain insight into how to achieve personal goals. It becomes obvious that we need to think about our goals. We need to think about them so much that they take on an life of their own and we become emotional enough to go out and physically achieve them.

If we have a goal and we are not emotional about it we will never achieve it. Our emotions carry us through dry spots and difficult times. They support us when we have no other support and they inspire others as well.

The last point is making our physical actions count. Think of a toddler learning how to walk. It is not easy and they fall down time after time but never give up. When they have physically tried enough times they gain the muscular coordination to walk and even run.

Can goal achievement and being successful be any different? I don't think so. Our first physical actions toward goal achievement will be failures because we don't know what it takes to succeed. We need lots of physical actions toward our goal until we gain competence and it becomes easy.

This point is so simple but so profound at the same time. Where your attention goes your energy flows. One of the great obstacles in life is not having enough energy to do the things we want to do. That is because we have a limited amount of energ that we can spend on things daily.

At night our bodies sleep and we rest. Any surplus energy we might have drains itself through our dreams. In the morning we wake up fresh and with more energy. During the day we spend that energy until it is gone.

We turn our attention to things that demand our attention like work or children and they drain us of energy. Then we turn our attention to things we are interested in. Perhaps we want to take a new class and learn somthing or read a book. Maybe we get on the internet or watch our favorite tv shows.

Everywhere we turn there is something that is trying to get our attention. We need to choose which things deserve our attention and which things don't. In the matter of energy conservation being open minded does not work. When we listen to some one with problems that they are not interested in solving our energy is drained uselessly. When we tackle a problem that is over our head and we fail our energy is again wasted.

The main thing to identify is if something is a waste of time and an energy drain and then avoid it. When possible stick with things that produce some type of results so the time and energy count for something.

Commercials and promotional ads are doing the same thing. They are attracting your attention in the hopes you will buy things. Money is a form of energy as well.

The main purpose of this post is to share how important time and attention really are and how your energy does flow toward those things you give your attention to. Be as conscious of this as possible and make your choices as to what gets your energy. Don't let other people choose for you.

Decide what you want and go for it! We learn by doing and not by wishing or thinking. How can we know if what we want is even possible if we don't give it a try?

The world is filled with people too timid to even ask directly for what they want from others. They don't realize how powerful simply asking for what you want can be. They wait for people to give it to them as if others could read their minds and know what they wanted.

Even more important getting something is so much different than wanting something. Achieving or receiving something takes place on all sensory levels of physical experience. Wanting something takes place on the intellectual or emotional levels only and is very incomplete. It is like the difference between thinking about an orgasm and having an orgasm. Even the memory is never like the experience.

When we decide on something and set out to get it the first thing we encounter are obstacles. The more we try the harder it is and it seems like we don't make any progress at all. That's because the reality of what we want is so different than our conception of what we want. The first step is to bring our wishes into step with physical reality if that is possible. That means bursting a few idealistic bubbles.

After being hit with the harsh reality of things we need to consider if we still want to pursue our goal. This is an important and neccessary part of goal achievement. Stop and think about this for a minute. Goal achievement is related to competence. When we achieve competence we achieve our goal. Are we willing to do what it takes to become competent?

Too many people are unwilling to do something that takes a lot of effort. That means they will never become competent at life or goal achievement. They want things to be easy and given to them. Nature does not work that way and it never will. Only a perverted social system will reward sloth and helplessness.

Find out how other people have achieved similar goals and try some of the things they have done. Find out what works for you and what doesn't work. Develop those things that work and discard those things that don't. Build from success not from failure. We all have things that work for us. Use those things as a springboard into new activities.

Brilliant ideas are a dime a dozen. They are worthless. Millions of people have good ideas every day. Only a handful of people achieve a prototype or working model of their idea. Even fewer can make their idea into a successful commercial venture. Getting what you want is not about having the idea. It is about bringing your idea into physical reality where it can work for you as you intend it to. Again this takes simple competency.

Competency is possible through small step by step successes over a period of time. Each small success adds skill and increases self esteem. Both are needed for goal achievement. You will know when competency is reached because things that once were hard will seem easy and almost effortless. You can do them without thinking about them even. The bottom line is that if you don't even try, you won't move from where you are right now.

Relating our personal soap opera to others might be enjoyable but it does not help. Telling dramatic stories about how we have been wronged or misunderstood actually strengthens the soap opera. We become more vested in the drama than we are in finding support or a solution. We get all worked up again and don't let things drop or die away naturally.

"Guess what my wife did last night?"

"You know what my husband told me when I asked for a new refrigerator?"

These are stories told to entertain others with the ongoing drama that proves our life is interesting. It is a lot different than sitting down and asking someone to listen and help. Everyone wants bigger than life experiences so we tend to exaggerate and embellish.

Most of our stories are about things that bother us or people that bother us. In telling our soap opera many small innocent things can get blown up and take on different meanings until we become convinced that our wife is cheating on us or our husband is abusing the children.

Our listeners add their own drama to ours and soon grandma and grandpa need to sell their home and move into a nursing home where they can be taken care of properly. Forget about what they want. All you know is grandpa fell and broke his hip. Grandma isn't strong enough to take care of him.

Everyone has opinions and loves a good story. Soon the story is not even ours any more. By telling stories our friends form wrong impressions based upon false data. Sure, they might be supportive and on our side but we might be in the wrong. This is especially true when we are telling negative stories about our partners, friends or family members. False impressions can be very harmful in the long run. There are two sides to every story.

Indiscriminate sharing just provides gossip and prevents us from letting go and healing from the injury or injustice. Others will bring it up again long after the fact just to see how you are doing and what the news is. It also means that we are talking negatively about those we love and care about behind their back. If we do that to those we love, how can we be trusted?

In a twist of irony life seems to mandate that we become what we most resist. This is part of the paradoxical nature of life itself as we mature and experience more.

How many people have said they resisted becoming like their parents only to find themselves treating their own children in the same manner they were treated. How many have done the pendulum swing reacting against going to church like their parents and later in life finding peace and solace in being born again?

My father told me he would never have a black dog or own a Ford. He has owned both. I hate to think of the times I have eaten my own words. We take a stand and then later find ourselves in a situation where we are on the opposite side. How can this be?

The simple answer is that nothing is really true unless its opposite is equally true. You can love a child to the point they never grow up as self supporting individuals. When you do everything for a child they do not learn to do things for themselves. Tough love is a very hard thing for a parent to learn and to appreciate.

Failure and making mistakes is a painful process, especially watching our children make mistakes. The truth is we learn from our mistakes and they make us stronger. At least they can if we let them.

It is easy to condemn Hitler for his unhuman treatment of Jewish prisoners in the death camps. Still we benefit from limb and organ transplants and other scientific discoveries pioneered in Nazi Germany. This paradox goes on and on.

There is an old saying, "When you point one finger at someone else you have three others pointing right back at you". Try it and you will see how true it is. We each contain within us the capacity for enormous good and evil. Love of self must compete daily with love of others and both are important. There is great risk when you neglect either one.

As we mature we realize that if we give too much to others we become too weak to survive on our own and become a burden to others. We become a burden because we gave too much and couldn't take care of our own needs.

In like manner when we are too self centered and self absorbed people will turn away from us. If we want to be treated well by others we need to be decent to them as well.

There is an old proverb about a King that was known for his kindness and generosity. His subjects were taxed very lightly. The king required only what he needed to run the palace. He had no food put away in store houses for insurance against hard times. A seven year drought ruined the crops in his kingdom and he was forced to take food from his own starving subjects. They rebelled against him and had him executed.

The neighboring kingdom was ruled by a mean and cruel king that taxed his subjects heavily and took much more than he needed to keep the palace in luxury. What he didn't use he placed in warehouses to sell. He was universally hated and despised. The same seven year drought ruined the crops in his kingdom as well. He was forced to open his warehouses and distribute food for his subjects to eat. Overnight he became a hero and lived a long and respected life.

The moral to this story is that it is easier for a mean and cruel tyrant to become loved than it is for a kind and gentle ruler to save his own life in times of disaster.

When our position is secure and our cup overflowing we can give the surplus to others and they can share in our bounty. In this manner we can support them through hard times until they get on their own feet once more.

If we overextend and give until we are at risk we fail ourselves and those we love in times of crisis and disaster. There will always be times of crisis and disaster. If we are prepared we can confront the crisis and be strong enough to help others when they need us most. Take care of yourself so you are strong enough to take care of those that love you and depend on you.

Negativity attracts negativity. This is obvious when we think about it. When we get angry at someone it provokes anger back in return. When someone yells at us in anger we struggle with an instinctive impulse to yell back.

There is a magnetic component to both negative behavior and positive behavior that is worth consideration. When people smile and greet us in a friendly manner we feel good and inclined to smile and be friendly in return.

There is a magnetic quality to emotions that pull us into their own polarity. Emotional events in life can really cause extreme highs and extreme lows if we are not careful. The problem with emotional energy is that it burns out so fast. That emotional high or low can not be sustained over long periods of time. It takes more energy than we are capable of generating and leaves us exhausted.

Allowing the bitter-sweet in life is one way to neutralize these extreme mood swings and use less energy. This means remaining open to both energies at times when one is dominant. When we are happy we can remember that there are people suffering and feel compassion for them. When we suffer we can remember it makes us deeper and more sensitive to the suffering of others. We can understand more of what it is like for them.

In reaching out to help others when we are riding high we learn to reach out to others when we are at the bottom as well. It is as important to accept help as it is to give help. Life is an interactive game not a solitary one. When confronted with negativity we grow if we resist falling under its influence. In sharing our joy we bring happiness to those that could really use it.

Indulging in excess emotional pleasure or pain causes harmful burnout when carried to extremes. No good can come of it. They are both dangerous forms of self absorbtion that weaken our bonds with the environment and those we love. They use dangerous amounts of energy and leave us barely functioning.

Our final consideration is that emotional energy feeds upon itself. When negative energy meets negative energy it grows and there is more negative energy than before. Things become more dangerous and a violent confrontation more likely. Being aware of the bitter-sweet can stall this confrontation or side step it for awhile but at some point negativity must be confronted and dealt with.

Stalling or putting off the inevitable confrontation until we are stronger is sound wisdom. But for it to work we must become stronger. There is nothing in life that we can run from or evade in the long term. Building bridges of understanding can help us to relate to our opponent and cope better with the situation. We gamble in the the hopes that with time we will become stronger than our opponent does.

Let me be blunt and say that obstacles are obstacles. Those things that block our success must be removed. We can remove small pieces at a time or tackle the entire thing in one huge confrontation. The main danger is in loosing such a confrontation and being set back into an even more vulnerable condition. That happens when our energy reserves are depleted. At such times our physical health becomes vulnerable as well.

As our energy reserves grow we can joyously confront our opponents in open conflict without fear of losing too much. Open conflict does resolve issues much more quickly and brings peace much more quickly in its wake. To the victor belong the spoils! It is unresolved conflict that causes stress.

In the game of life these are the risks we take in confrontation and avoidance. There is no universal right way or wrong way of resolving conflict and dealing with negativity. There is only the universal hope of creating a win-win situation where all parties are happy.

Win-win situations create quantum leaps that propel us into new ways of being never before experienced. They also bring new challenges.

You have the choice of being affected by negativity or not being affected by it. Sometimes it's hard to believe we do have this choice. When someone is pushing your buttons to get a reaction they know exactly what they are doing and we fall right into it. This is following old behavior patterns unconsciously even when we don't want to.

When someone pushed my buttons I used to mentally tell myself that I would not loose control of myself to someone else. I would not allow someone else to yank my chain. I reasoned that if they could yank my chain that meant they had a certain amount of control over me. I was not going to allow this.

The result was a tough armor that I needed to call upon time after time. People sensed that I was blocking their attempts and tried harder. I put more armor around myself. People tried harder to push my buttons. It seemed that I was caught up in a viscious circle where I was withdrawing from human interaction.

The final result was I was left alone and lonely. Not exactly what I wanted but it was at least peaceful. After I centered myself and calmed down I was ready to start relating with people again. It was not so easy. I noticed it most with my wife. She would try to pull me into arguements. She complained that I would only relate with her when things were going well. At soon as things got bad I would emotionally leave the relationship. She wanted me to stay and confront the issues so we could work them out. I was very uncomfortable doing this. We were at a stand still.

Gradually I learned that being affected by negativity happened by not confronting it when it occurred. It was an emotional charge and if I confronted it right away I lost energy but felt better. I was a lot better off just getting it over with and moving on. When I let my wife discharge her frustration she felt better. I didn't try running from it. A side effect was that I started expressing more of my frustration as well.

Being free to express small frustrations and negativity prevented the build up of anger and resentment that produced many of the big blow ups. This was an important step.

Being able to armor myself was just as important. Imagine being in a restaurant or public place and someone butts in line and starts screaming at you. This is the type of negativity you can block with your armor. Don't block the negativity from your loved ones. Try to understand it instead.

The only way you can choose is if you are capable of both options. Knowing when to accept negativity is as important as blocking it. The sharing of pain and sorrow is an important part of our important relationships. We need to be supportive of others if we want them to be supportive of us. At times this means accepting their anger and resentment.

I think we all know what self defeat is. It is when we persist in doing something that not only is not working but can not work or will not work in the future. We are so personally invested in the situation that we refuse to cut our losses and free our selves. We remain in denial about the situation and never move forward.

This can be about jobs, relationships, money or even health issues. Currently its about my truck. I've been refusing to believe that it needs to be replaced even after I've been stranded with it four times in the last two weeks. The mechanic says the truck is not worth fixing and I'm in a tight spot. I need to listen and I need to move forward. If I had been willing to let go of the truck as soon as it started giving me trouble I could have saved myself almost $400. Now its too late for that. I put money into it that I shouldn't have. It still won't run and never will.

Sound familiar? I'm sure something like this happens to everyone sooner or later. Perhaps the better question is why? Why do we stay on the boat until it is sinking? Does some misplaced loyalty demand we go down with the ship?

My first marriage was the same way. I would never have left if she hadn't. I would have put up with pure hell for the rest of my life just to do the "right thing" for my children. It turns out that getting a divorce was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. Still I was forced into it. It was not something I would have done on my own.

How can we choose freedom from self defeat? I don't have a good answer. Maybe there isn't one. What I can say is that if you are putting out tremendous effort and not getting back anything in return something is wrong. That is a big red flag that needs to be paid attention to. It doesn't matter how emotionally attatched or invested we are. If nothing is coming back we need to seriously evaluate the wisdom of continuing the present course of action.

Jobs and employment have always been a weak area in my life. I am a hard worker and often work two jobs to make ends meet. Still, in the past I have always worked at jobs that were physically and emotionally draining to the point where I would not have the energy to do anything on my days off. I've also always been drawn to jobs where I was over qualified for the work I was doing.

My wife, Annie told me there are good jobs. She said I didn't need to put up with high stress and low paying jobs. She did her best to tell me that I was putting up with things I didn't need to put up with. I like my recent job or rather both of my current jobs even though the pay is modest. I'm good at what I do and respected. I also have good relationships with co-workers. I also have the freedom to do what I love the most, writing on the internet! This is actually a third job for me.

In the evenings when I get home I have enough energy to do things I want to do. This is a blessing that I had forgotten existed. Life is still hard but I am doing many of the things I love to do. That is the highest freedom of all.

Things may not be entirely the way I would like them but I am certainly moving toward some important goals. I am not currently a victim of self defeat.

We all know the feeling of working hard all day and not getting anything done. At least it seems that way. We don't need to keep spinning our wheels through ineffective actions. Study the experts and champions to find out how they do it. This is the research part of any goal. Before you can do it your way you need to understand how other people have done it in other ways.

Nature in the evolutionary process explores all possible options. There are no good and evil choices in nature. Everything is explored and success is rewarded. Failure to thrive leads to stunted and abnormal living situations.

We can apply this to our own lives as well. Are we enjoying a rich and rewarding lifestyle that we are comfortable with? Or do we live in stunted and abnormal living situations that are slowly choking our spirit and will to live?

For thousands of years the "Collective Soul" of the human race has worked for the good of the entire human race. This meant holding some people back until the rest of us could catch up. Society and culture had the final word on how far a person could go in life.

With the internet things have changed. The human race has gone global! For the first time ever you don't need to have the support of local community to become successful. You can gather the support you need from the far corners of the earth and you can support others as well. We can't even begin to comprehend just what this means.

There is a level playing field now and everyone has the same chance to make their mark in the world. Politics and social institutions still exist but as dinosaurs that are fast on their way to extinction. People will loose interest in them as they increasingly prove incapable of coping with today's social problems.

Self sufficiency and survivalism on an individual basis are going to replace wasteful government handouts. Family is going to take care of family. Local community is going to take care of local community. The solutions to humanities problems are going to appear at the grass roots level or not at all. Those waiting for government bailouts are going to be hurting. The policeman is never there when you need him, but he is there to fill out the paperwork after the fact.

Survivalism doesn't mean being able to live off the land. It means being secure in your ability to feed and clothe your family and keep a roof over their heads in the winter. It means having a job that is not going away to China or Mexico. It means being able to find a different job if your currrent one does. Survivalism means physically doing whatever it takes to survive.

This is a time to put down roots so you can be strong and support others when they need you. Keeping yourself strong allows you to be there for others. This is not selfishness. It is staying alive!

Cautiously explore every opportunity that comes your way and test it for response. Putting effort out and not getting anything back is a waste of time and energy. Study the results you do get and refine the process to get even better results.

Long term goals might not bring in immediate money but they should bring in something. My long term goals are to make a living as a writer. I'm not making much money now and I'm not trying to. My focus is on getting readers. If I was not getting readers I would not continue producing this material.

Success grows out of success not out of failure. Each small success leads to deeper understanding and insight into what changes need to be done next. Everyone has an area in life that is working for them. Expand that area to include others and see what happens. Make your physical actions count!

During part of my life I worked as an in-home crisis counselor. I would visit families in crisis and try helping them sort the chaos out and find solutions the the crisis. Anyone working in this area knows that to be effective it works best if you have gone through similar situations successfully.

This means you can offer insights and suggestions from personal experience and not theory from some book. Fortunately or unfortunately I have struggled through a lot of dysfunction in my life and learned a lot the hard way.

Listening to family members tell their own side of the story made no sense at all. Every family member could justify their own position and say why other family members were at fault.

Time after time the situation would boil down to family members taking unfair advantage and manipulating other family members. People resent being manipulated, especially when it is unfairly done. Educating the family on unfair manipulations and teaching them healthy alternatives was an important part of resolving crisis.

The other factor was when family members would say one thing and their physical actions said another. Sometimes things were so bad that I couldn't tell who was lying and who was telling the truth. Everyone was very convincing.

That's when I told people to shut up. I was not interested in hearing reasons why things went wrong. I was only interested in physical actions and physical results. Who did what to who? I didn't need to know why. Child abuse or Parent abuse both happen. There are ways to get what you want without being abusive. There are ways to fight fairly and maintain self respect and self esteem. There are ways to create win-win situations. Abuse is abuse and needs to be confronted. It can never be justified.

In my own life I confronted the same weakness. I talk a good show and my actions are not always backing up what I say. In retrospect I will talk alot about what I am going to do, perhaps more than I should until people think I'm a windbag. But I reach a point where I will actually do it.

Writing is a perfect example. Since high school I said I was a writer and wanted to write books. I got into arguments and debates with other friends that wanted to be writers too. When I experienced my first heartbreak I did write some teenage angst poetry but that was it. I wanted to be a writer but I was not writing anything.

The desire to write would come and go in spurts. At the age of thirty I took some writing courses and completed the assignments graduating from the courses with honors but still not writing on my own. At the age of forty I seriously tried writing my first two books, OAK:Foundations and OAK:Magister Templi.

I finished them as rough drafts and called it good enough. Several years later I realized my wife was right. They were not readable. I still was not writing other stuff. I remained a writer that would not write. Consider Stephen King. He began writing as a teenager and continued all through his life. Many people think you need to begin when you are young or it won't work. They forget Edgar Rice Burroughs was forty when he began writing the Tarzan books.

I was getting old and still hadn't produced much of anything. Was I lying to myself? In a way yes and in a way no. I thought I knew what writing was about but I really didn't. In this respect I was lying to myself.

It was only when I turned forty eight and took three months off to write Anarchist Knight:Apprentice that I finally understood. Almost two years later I was holding the first copy in my hands. I never dreamed how much work it was to write a book and I never knew how rewarding it was.

There is a big difference between saying you are a writer and actually being a writer. For forty some years I was kidding myself about being a writer. It is only now that I understand the easy competence of writing something every day. Today for the first time I can say with honesty that I am a writer.

It was the same in families I was working with. Many family members were kidding themselves as well. They were saying one thing and not following through on their promises or agreements. It is better not to make a promise or agreement then to break it. It sounds so simple but these families simply needed to be reminded to keep their promises and agreements. They also needed to learn about being fair and allow win-win situations without trying to manipulate each other to get their own way.

Sometimes it helps to have someone tell us that we are not doing the things we say we are doing. This means confronting us and making us confront ourselves.

What are you doing to make your life better and richer? What are you doing to make your relationships with loved ones better? What are you doing that makes life meaningful and worthwhile? Are you taking the physical actions needed or are you lying to yourself?

We all have false responses. That's when we feel one way and act another way. Someone might ask if we are ok and we tell them we are when we really are not ok.

Other examples of false responses are never completing things we start; feeling the grass is always greener somewhere else; never asking someone out on a date because we fear rejection.

Over and over again our false responses get in our way and cause us to trip and fall right before we reach the finish line. False responses are rationalizatons and lies that we tell ourselves to avoid confronting the things that need to be owned and accepted before we can move closer toward our goals.

In most cases our false responses are protection mechanisms created to avoid unpleasant situations. We live with someone we don't love for the sake of the children or stay at a job where we are not treated like a human being because we fear unemployment.

We are all blessed with a wide range of sensory awareness and life experience. Our physical human bodies are fully integrated and functional. At least they try to be unless we frustrate and block them with our false responses.

What I'm trying to say here is that our false responses divide and separate who we are and what we feel. They make us feel divided and lead to stress and perhaps mental or emotional illness. When we want something and can't get it there are two paths we can follow. The easiest option is to rationalize and lie to ourselves that someone or something is preventing us from the achievement of that goal. As long as the cause of our personal failure lies external to us we have no reason to change or try harder.

The second path is much harder. We have to own up to the fact that our own actions have brought us to our current situation and our own actions must carry us forward out of them. The reason we can't achieve our goal is because we are either doing something wrong or are not ready yet. When we hit the brick wall we need to realize that it usually manifests when we are going in the wrong direction.

Rationalizations and lies are mental in nature. This means that mentally we can't find a way that will reach our goal. It does no good to tell ourselves that our body is wrong or that our emotions are wrong. We sense what we sense and we feel what we feel. Those are true things. We just don't fully understand them.

The mental nature needs to be in harmony with the physical body and the emotions. This is obvious but how can we do this? Research and exploration. Research the goal and study how others go about achieving it. An in depth study of any subject will show that it is not exactly what we imagined it to be. Being a writer is much more hard work than I ever imagined it to be. I had no idea that material needed to be re-written up to ten times before it was presentable as a book.

Having a loving and sexual relationship with a partner has been nothing at all like I thought it would be. It's much more work than I ever dreamed but it is also much more satisfying.

When we first try to achieve a goal we don't know what it takes to reach that goal. Our expectations are not realistic. We can either stop trying and rationalize why we can't have what we want or we can research and learn to have more realistic expectations. False responses are when our mental nature gives up.

Learning by doing and having a gentle gradient are the most powerful ways of breaking through false responses. Taking things by baby steps and mastering each small step at a time will break through any false response and replace it with a true success. This is much better than wanting too much too fast and then crashing and burning.

At the completion of each baby step we learn more about our goal. Our expectations become more realistic and we might even find we only thought we wanted that goal. What we really want is something else entirely. We can't even discover that deeper truth until our curiousity is satisfied about the first one.

Learning and satisfying our curiousity clear the way for advancement to what really matters. This does not mean to give in to every stray whim and fancy. That is what our mental natures are for. When fully integrated they recognize these physical and emotional impulses and understand them for what they are, sensory data and impressions.

Our mental natures discern harmful or negative possibilities and steer us around bad experiences while affirming those feelings and impressions. It's ok to look as long as you don't touch. You've got your own at home.

Fear is a natural and healthy emotion that lets us know something is dangerous. There are two distinct ways we can respond to fearful situations.

In the jungle a lion stalks its prey. Right before the lion pounces for the kill it lets out a fearful roar. The victim either freezes in terror or bolts like lightning. If it freezes in terror its dead. If it bolts in terror it might have a chance to live another day.

Several years ago I studied the martial arts and some of the behavior patterns were sinking into my subconscious. I liked going for walks in the country, especially at night. I would walk along the road next to a creek. One night I was walking along the road when a beaver slapped its tail in the water about six feet away from me. It sounded like a shotgun going off. I was terrified and jumped almost two feet into the air.

The interesting thing is that in mid air I managed to turn around to face the sound and came down crouching in a martial arts fighting stance. When the brain goes numb the body reverts to training. This is something the military knows very well. In my terror my body responded the way it had been trained. This was a good thing.

Now another example. Several years ago I was working a job in a casino as a security guard. We patrolled the entire casino and kept an eye on things. One of my co-workers was making her rounds in the pool area when a baby fell into the pool. The mother froze. All she could do was scream. She couldn't even make an attempt to save her baby. My co-worker dived into the pool and rescued the baby without even thinking about it. Again the body reverts to training.

Training to escape, training to rescue or even training in self defense are vital. This is the training that allows our body to function when our minds freeze. There will always be fearful situations in life. We will at times experience fear. We don't need to become paralyzed by it.

A very powerful type of self empowerment is to confront our personal fears and learn to deal with them so they loose their ability to harm us. I am afraid of heights but I can go up on roofs if I need to. I am afraid of water but I have learned how to swim enough that I can save myself in most situations.

I have been afraid of intimacy within relationships but I am learning how to cope with that as well. Confronting these types of fears becomes the work of a life time. It is also one of the most rewarding things a person can do.

Sometimes our attitude sucks! Attitude is a mix of emotions and thinking. Said another way attitude is how our emotions and thoughts meet physical reality. When our expectations are realistic and positive our attitude is positive. When our expectations are unrrealistic or negative our attitude becomes negative as well.

What I'm trying to get at here is the idea that attitude embraces the completeness of us at one time. Attitude is a reflection of who we are body, mind and spirit in a unified way at any given time. It reflects our true intelligence and will to live.

Using the metaphor of a robot there are two ways of programming a robot to do a task. One way is to write a computer program line by line and step by step. The computer will read the program and take the robot through the task one step at a time.

This way of programming a robot is roughly equivalent to mentally thinking a project or problem through before physically acting on it. Thinking before acting is a useful way of describing this way of dealing with things.

The problem is that sometimes we get stuck mentally or emotionally. Because our thinking is wrong or our emotions are clouding our judgement we are not able to function as well and we become frustrated. Our mind and emotions are not in accord with physical reality and our attitude sucks.

The second way of programming a robot is to place a programming device or sensor in the robot's hand and physically move the robot's arm through the cycle that is desired. The movement is recorded through the device and the robot is instantly able to repeat and perform the desired activity.

Let's take a newborn infant as an example. The newborn child has no ability to move its arms or legs in a conscious or deliberate manner. No neural pathways have been developing within the brain for such movement. The mother or father plays with the infant moving its arms and legs. This movement causes nerves to fire within the brain and nervous system and soon the infant learns to control its arms and legs by using the same circuitry within the brain. Physical movement created the neural pathway. Conscious intent used the neural pathway once it was created.

When we are stuck in life and can't find our way out of a situation mentally or emotionally raw physical activity will burn a new neural pathway we can use. This is why people need to hit bottom when they are stuck. Hitting bottom forces raw physical activity just to stay alive. That physical activity allows a fresh start into new neural pathways. Hitting bottom will either kill us or force us to change our attitude!

An even better solution is raw physical activity without hitting bottom. We don't need to hit bottom to change our attitude. All we need is to physically doing new things and grow through those experiences. A healthy individual finds joy and excitement in physically doing new things and learning new skills. This new knowledge and these new skills are what allow him or her to find continuing satisfaction and enjoyment in life.

The next time you find yourself stuck in a rut go out and try doing something new, something physical! Burn new neural pathways into your brain, pathways that work!
